Lateral interviewing

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Feb 08, 2022 11:56 pm

3rd year corporate big law associate. Partner received an excellent job offer in a different primary market. Strongly considering lateraling to a firm in the same market.

For people that have lateraled to another firm, what were some of the questions you were asked and what was the interviewing experience like?

There are lots of threads on lateraling. But in general, firms are interested in your experience more than anything else--not just what matters you've worked on, but what tasks you can handle. Partners want someone who can hit the ground running. They're also going to want to know your reasons for lateralling, to ensure they're not getting someone who is being pushed out, but it sounds like you have a convincing reason.
