Jones Day SF?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jan 10, 2022 3:22 pm

Upcoming screener. I'm a 1L interested in lit + some transactional work (PE, etc). Office's partners seem to be mostly lit. How is office culture/position in the Bay Area? Some threads on here suggest they're decent but they're def out-of-date so rather unsure.

This info is a few years old, but I recall their office is almost entirely litigation. I would look elsewhere if a balance between lit and transactional is important for you. I would also make sure you do your research on their firm-wide culture as I have heard some very mixed things.

Looking at their partner list it seems like 70-30 Lit/Corp, with M&A, PE, and Financial Markets being their largest corp practices. As for culture... I've read up on it--I guess I'll have to see how the interview goes.

Anon b/c I have knowledge on this office. Generally not very strong when it comes to transactional. A lot of that work comes from Silicon Valley which has lost a number of transactional partners. Very good disputes practices, with some excellent antitrust/international litigators. Generally a friendly, easy-going office — probably one of the better cultures among the non-native SF firms.

But don’t forget that it’s still jones day. I don’t think any of the SF partners are supportive of the firm’s work for the GOP, but the name and reputation is still there. Also black box means there will probably be a pay discrepancy.
