How to switch to fintech as entry level?

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jan 09, 2022 8:43 pm

Long story short, I want to do a 180 career switch and get into fintech. I find the crypto, blockchain, NFT, web-3 space fascinating and want to figure out how I can get involved.

About me: I've been practicing law for about 4 years now. I have a decent pedigree (t-14) and then biglaw for 2.5 years (practice area super niche and boring - finance/HY debt). Ended up realizing not for me and quit to do some legal adjacent stuff at an investment bank (so no transactional experience last 2 years, just doing some regulatory/licensing stuff).

I've financially secure and willing to take a giant paycut for some experience in a relatively novel and exciting space. And doubly so if the company culture is remote work. Any tips?

Do you mean on the business side or on the legal side? On the business side, I can't really be helpful (although many players in the space - of varying degrees of reputability - are hiring like mad). On the legal side, I work in this space and I actually think you could sell this pretty easily, either for roles at a firm or a role in-house.

Thanks, would like to hear more about your experience. I was thinking the legal side to start (don't really have any biz side skills or experience, except was a CPA before law school.

OP here - how can I sell it? What do you look for when trying to fine these kinds of roles?
