Midlaw expectations

Hey all, I work in a smaller market in the midwest and was top of my class at the regional T1 state U. I had a biglaw offer in a big city (not chi) for below market- I did half my summer with that firm and I saw the way they worked associates so I didn't pick that firm. I did my other half of my SA with a midlaw firm in my hometown where I practice now. I chose this firm, even though the pay was significantly lower, due to the perceived notion of quality of life sold to me by the partners there. It seems that a number of the partners though (not the ones who hired me, but ones I do about 20-40% of my work for depending on the month) have different expectations and expect me to be in the office at 8 and leaving around 6 and coming in on Saturdays- whereas the ones who hired me (who I do also do work for) expect me in around 8:30-5:30 and no weekends unless trial or something. Is this something to bring up? I brought it up to my mentor, who was the one who hired me, and he said to just tell them I'm busy, but my firm is very much not a coexisting firm but more like a bunch of small groups built into it, and each partner/group has their own expectations and I really don't want to rock the boat too much. Any suggestions on how to deal with that?

Also, on an unrelated note, one of these partners who expects weekend work actually was quite rude to me and borderline yelled at me- I'm an older associate, not super old, but I'm in my early 30s with a starter family, hah- and I was extremely put off. Any suggestions on how to slowly disengage from a partner? I think we are naturally drifting apart anyhow, but would it be okay if I just was a bit slower on turn arounds and wasn't proactive on my cases?
