1L Diversity Summer Associate Question

Post by Throwaway210222 » Wed Dec 29, 2021 2:08 pm

I am currently applying for 1L summer positions and was wondering about what qualifies as diverse, and whether I qualify for such positions. I am a straight cisgender white male who grew up with little economic hardship, but I do have an ocular degenerative disorder and am legally blind in one eye. Are these positions for people like me as well? My disability is non-obvious and not impairing to the point where it is a constant presence in my life, but it is something that has impacted my life. For example, I've had a number of surgeries for it. I feel like these positions aren't really for someone like me, but I wanted to get opinions before I pass up on potential opportunities.

As a side note, are employers going to read "blind" and immediately throw out my application? My disability does admittedly impact my reading ability to a degree (which I won't get into here), but not to the point where it would significantly hinder my productivity. Is that something I'd need to explain?
