Incredibly ATL reported on Sidley matching DPW bonuses, but completely ignored the substantial salary increase (particularly for mid-levels) mentioned in the same memo. Have they ever been more irrelevant?

That memo just says that you get a pay raise on Jan 1 just like every other firm. The base salaries are the same

That appears to be right. The only increase I see is that 8th years are being paid $375k instead of $365k (I'm comparing based on the BiglawInvestor salary scale).almostperfectt wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:46 pmThat memo just says that you get a pay raise on Jan 1 just like every other firm. yeah it seems like they're just saying your salary goes to the next class year up? Like of course it does. very strange way of wording it.almostperfectt wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:46 pmThat memo just says that you get a pay raise on Jan 1 just like every other firm. The base salaries are the same

If I'm counting to 9 correctly, those are 9th yearsotisreadingcomp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:48 pmThat appears to be right. What does this mean for c/o 2021? Presumably staying at $205K?

Does this not mean c/o 2022 grads will be getting $215k base? That's how I interpreted it.

LOL if true, as this was just pushed out by BloombergLaw as "breaking news" about "soaring" associate salaries.Anon-non-anon wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:48 pmyeah it seems like they're just saying your salary goes to the next class year up? Wow. Bloomberg failed and now Sidley is going to have to clarify after everyone got excited. Kind of hilarious.

Sidley associate here, this is standard language in the firm’s end of year bonus announcements most years (maybe every year but can’t immediately recall). It’s just to clarify that everyone is going up a class year effective Jan 1, and reminding people of their new salaries. Not really sure why this is newsworthy.

How do they not check this with the firm before blasting out?!Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:54 pmSidley associate here, this is standard language in the firm’s end of year bonus announcements most years (maybe every year but can’t immediately recall). Bloomberg sends these kind of articles out every year I think. You'll note that the headline solely mentions 9th year pay.ligma wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:57 pmHow do they not check this with the firm before blasting out?!Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 3:54 pmSidley associate here, this is standard language in the firm’s end of year bonus announcements most years (maybe every year but can’t immediately recall). Honestly, kind of shocking that this article came out of Bloomberg. And embarassing for them.

This is the same scale.
Got excited for nothing.
Maybe the fake news will put pressure on other firms.

This is hilarious.
The journalist doesn’t even have an active Twitter so can’t enjoy the shame.

ATL just updated their post to dash our hopes and dreams:
[UPDATE: Bloomberg is also reporting that Sidley has increased salaries by “up to $35,000.” We believe this is a misreading of the memo — rather we read the memo on the next page as acknowledging that each class year is graduating to the pre-established salary for an associate that’s one-year older (though with the eldest class receiving an additional $10K for a $375K base). We will update with clarification from Sidley.
UPDATE 2: Confirmed.]
