Second CB
Anyone ever been asked to do a second callback? What’s the point of this?
3L interviewing at V50 firm in NYC. Had a screener with a partner and cb with 4 associates.

Sounds like an actual decision-maker (i.e., none of the people you've seen so far) has a shortlist and is trying to make the final cut.

It feels like in the CB round some people really loved you and some people did not like you at all... Too split for them to make a final decision

I'm guessing you'll be interviewing with some partners. Surprised you've only met one partner (through a screener no less) and did your first callback with 4 associates.

Are these in person or virtual? If virtual, they probably just want more people to weigh in? A CB with only associates doesn’t seem like the basis for a final decision.

3L recruiting can be idiosyncratic. Remember they are hiring you directly to the practice group and want to make sure you will fit in the team. Also associates are never the decision makers. I had three 3L callbacks. Each was completely different.
A. No screener. 5 individual interviews, all partners.
B. Practice manager screener. Round 2, 2 individual interviews, counsel + associate. Round 3, two individual interviews with partners.
C. Screener with two partners, together. Then callback with 5 lawyers in the group, 3 partners and 2 associates (but doubled up so it was 90 min). C is where I am. 5/7 of the attorneys I interviewed with are in my day to day practice group
I also had a screener that was 3 partners, didn't get a cb.

Think it is somewhat to be expected then. From my experience, associate opinions are important, but are useless without some partner okay'ing you. No way they're going to hire you based on the opinion of four associates. So I wouldn't be surprised/take it as a bad sign.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Nov 02, 2021 6:54 pmVirtual. Oh it's definitely a good sign for OP - the associates didn't ding you. The partners are going to go in with the impression that you are personable.Sad248 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:37 amThink it is somewhat to be expected then.
