I am an incoming transactional summer associate who has been provisionally placed into a transactional route. I am a first-generation law student, but I had some work experience in-house before law school where I helped the in-house attorneys with their work on deals (Healthcare M&A) and ended up doing some of that this past summer as well. I did enjoy it (to the extent that I could) and I think that a transactional route would better prepare me for an ultimate goal of mine, which is to go in-house in some capacity.
My issue is that M&A is the only transactional practice area of which I have a remote idea of what the work entails and the potential exit options. Is this the only viable practice area to go in-house with an eye on moving up within an company?
If anyone has time and is willing to provide a brief idea of what their work product is like in their practice area and potential exit options out of Big Law I would really appreciate it. I am interested in learning about any practice are under the transactional "umbrella" and am particularly interested in Global Finance, Capital Markets, and Debt Finance (only because I have heard about these). Thank you in advance!

Have you seen Chambers Associate? https://www.chambers-associate.com/practice-areas
It's not the most sophisticated resource, but it does a decent job giving you a high-level introduction to different practice areas. If you want to drill down further into a particular area, searching TLS is usually a good option. (Either via the native TLS search function, or by Googling site:top-law-schools.com [QUERY].)
