Chambers rankings
How do firms view Chambers rankings? I happened to get ranked for the first time this year, but I am stuck in a non-equity partner role at my firm and it doesn't seem like equity partner is in the cards. Is the ranking a selling point if I try to lateral to another firm or do most firms just not care about this stuff?

Re: Chambers rankings
Chambers is obviously the gold standard of rankings, but I don’t think you can make partner solely based on a ranking. The economics need to make sense.

Re: Chambers rankings
TLS is not the right place to ask this question. There are good recruiters who help partners lateral. They will know the answer to this question.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 11:19 pmHow do firms view Chambers rankings? Re: Chambers rankings
This seems like an odd question. Like, if you've been ranked by Chambers, you should already have a basic sense of the impact. Chambers rankings are marketable, as evidenced by the many firms that market the ranking by Chambers of their firm and attorneys. Most firms are going to "care," in that sense. How much they care is going to be firm-specific and depends on their view of the economics of your partnership candidacy. It will be a bullet point on your candidacy packet that the lateral partner committee of any firm reviews.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 11:19 pmHow do firms view Chambers rankings? Re: Chambers rankings
Thanks for the responses. And apologies for asking maybe a dumb/odd question. I've been at my current firm for over a decade now and haven't worked anywhere else or even considered lateraling before, so just wasn't sure if the ranking was a good selling point or just marketing fluff. I totally understand that the ranking alone won't help me make equity partner, but I'm hoping to just springboard somewhere else and put a couple years in and hopefully get a good shot at making equity.
