I made this decision but on lit side. I chose debevoise bc I found the PW people a bit odd, but you can't go wrong. I'm not knowledgeable enough about specific practices / exit ops to give details, but at Debevoise it's a lot of fund work if you aren't doing M&A.

For corporate, I think Deb has the edge here. PW's corporate department is still small, although it is growing. Conversely, Deb has been a mainstay among the top NY corporate firms for a while now.

Re: Paul Weiss NY v. Debevoise NY
Well, I was late to my screener bc the previous one went long. The person seemed very displeased about it (fair enough). She asked me one question, then said do you have any questions for me and sat there giving not very engaging responses for 15 minutes or so, then it was over. I walked out chalking that one up in the L column. Then I got a callback.
On the callback, one corporate partner said he had closed a deal the day before and a group of 8 or so of them had drank like 20 bottles of wine at lunch, so he apologized for not being present because he was so hungover (I'd say that was the high point). The next person I met was a very senior partner who seemed like he couldn't be bothered to give me the time of day. I met a couple of associates, who were fine I guess, no strong memories. I think one was already out the door. And if I'm not mixing PW up with someone else, the clear associate offices were a big turn off (I'm a disgusting slob).
PW's NY office is also HUGE and the maze of elevators was intimidating. (Little did I know about the Debevoise elevator extravaganza.)
Anyway, not particularly good reasons to choose one firm over another, but other than prestige and a very random piece of trivia that would give my identity away, I had no better reason to choose between Debevoise and PW. Debevoise was also in the West Wing, so that's cool.

PW doesn't have clear associate offices. You may be thinking of the wrong firm.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:38 amWell, I was late to my screener bc the previous one went long.
