Hello y’all,
I wanted litigation and geared all of my classes to litigation. Found out I have been placed in Corporate at a V100. Corporate was not on my preference sheet. Does this mean the firm wants me out? Is this bad news… I am a first gen. Lawyer and I am unsure how I am supposed to navigate this. Any advice would be great.

If it’s not too late to find a clerkship, that could be a good way to pivot to a litigation group at a different firm.

Re: Law Firm Placement Concerns
This is not surprising and has been happening frequently in the recent past, and I would not take it as a signal the firm is trying to push you out.
It is the result of corporate being gang busters right now and lit being (relatively) slow. Simple fact being that firms need more bodies in their corporate departments right now.
If you have your heart set on lit, I think you have two options: (1) go to your firm and do your best to get staffed on lit projects (make your interest known--tell partners/associates in lit you are interested in lit), and (2) if (1) does not work, look to lateral to another firm where you can do lit. Another halfway decent option could be to go to the firm for a year and then clerk.

Firms need corporate associates, and you really aren't in a position to say no, so they put you in corporate. Sorry man. I would try hard to clerk or find a new gig if you're really gung ho on litigation.
