STB vs. Skadden for lit

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Aug 18, 2021 9:46 am

Considering offers at both. 99% sure I want lit. NY offices.

I like STB, I've liked the people I met a lot. I like that I can do generalist work as a litigation associate at STB and try different things. They have a fairly generous parental leave policy which is important bc my partner and I are planning on children around the time I'd be a junior associate. However I'm worried that with how crazy busy corporate work is, I'll be forced into corporate work, and that would absolutely suck.

Skadden it seems like I'd have no problem getting into a lit group, but I'm not thrilled about the immediate specialization, e.g. being slotted into commercial lit, white collar, tort, etc. Have also liked the people I've met.

Appreciate any tips. Insight into culture would be nice too, I've done second looks etc but it's hard to get a feel for things virtually over a 20-30 minute call. I get that I'm going to work a ton either place but the degree of how miserable I'll be is a factor. Have to survive 3 years while my partner finishes residency but then I'm free and clear to bail on biglaw.
