I've been interviewing for a lateral position at a V50 and finished interviews about 4 weeks ago (after having interviews stretched over a 2.5 week period). I felt everything went fairly smoothly and was pretty optimistic about my chances, but have not had any communication with the firm since my last interview. I tried reaching out to the recruiting contact a little less than 2 weeks ago, as well as the partner with whom I'd been in contact last week, but each time received no response.
My assumption is that I shouldn't be expecting an offer at this point, but I find it a little unusual to not even get a "We're going in a different direction" response to my email. I'm not sure who else to reach out to at this point since, but just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience. Are law firms just ghosting candidates that have gone through a full interview process with them?

Anon in similar position. I had a V50 callback (3 weeks ago) and a V100 callback (5 weeks ago). No responses or updates from either. Firms may either be busy with OCI or not affirmatively reject some candidates.

Re: Lateral Hiring--Lack of communication following interview
Odd--I think I've gotten some type of response for every legal interview I've done since law school, and definitely anywhere I've interviewed past the screener stage. I would think the internal recruiter could at least provide a short email response indicating either (i) no decision has been made or (ii) rejection, unless they are truly just only handling OCI at this point (still not sure that justifies a non-response). Not sure what the benefit is to the firm to just flat out not respond here.

The reverse is also true--what benefit is to the firm to respond unless it's to offer the candidate.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 9:37 amNot sure what the benefit is to the firm to just flat out not respond here.
Just treat it like a rejection and carry on.

The benefit is that by treating other attorneys like humans you dont tarnish your reputation. What if that person becomes GC somewhere down the line and you lose work because your recruiter was lazy?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 9:54 amThe reverse is also true--what benefit is to the firm to respond unless it's to offer the candidate.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 9:37 amNot sure what the benefit is to the firm to just flat out not respond here.

Re: Lateral Hiring--Lack of communication following interview
This happened to me a few months ago. I had a great interview and great feedback. It probably took them 4-5 weeks to get back to me and they asked for what comp I was looking for. Then another 4-5 weeks before they told me that they were going with a different candidate. This was for a partner position and apparently I was down to the final two, but the other guy had a book and I didn't so they went with that guy.
