SLC/Denver Lateral?
A current third year corporate generalist at a V5 NY shop. My wife is from a Mormon family and has been wanting to move to SLC for quite some time. She’s also mentioned moving to Denver (where her parents and most of her family is currently). I understand both are highly insular but I wanted to know if the “NY experience” will be able to open doors in these markets now.

Currently working from one of those markets, fully remote, corporate, biglaw. I am happy to connect if you want to reply with a throwaway e-mail address or other contact.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Aug 16, 2021 8:30 pmA current third year corporate generalist at a V5 NY shop. Hey OP, I'm a SLC native but lived back east for about six years and made my way back to the market a couple of years ago because LDS and proximity to family. I had a similar choice on my hands and tend to regret not going to Denver or Arizona.
SLC is way more insular than Denver both socially and professionally; more conservative on pay; only one or two Am Law 100 law firms; generally less sophisticated legal work than friends in Denver; and difficult to acclimate to after living anywhere back east.
You will be treasured as anyone is with "out-of-state" experience, but prepare yourself for the culture shock, the poor pay (despite the cost of living), and surprisingly painful compressed salary scales while still billing a hell of a lot.

Not OP but would appreciate connecting as I am currently in one of those markets at a "top" corporate firm but looking to make the jump to real big law since I'm billing 1900-2100 a year anyways but getting paid half of what my peers make in major markets. Happy to message on here or however works best for you.
