Re: Kirkland ($) v. DPW v. Skadden [bay area]
DPW is not a major player in cali, I would just consider between Skadden and KE. Given KE offered you 50k, I would just collect that money and lateral out in a few years if you dont like it

Why would you even think about going to DPW or Skadden if K&E is offering $50k?

Agree with the above poster. The differences between the 3 are not significant enough to even think about turning down 50k at KE. Especially considering KE doesn't have an hours requirement for bonuses so you are guaranteed a full market bonus (likely more) each year. Unless you have a very specific practice you are considering, take the money and run.

Curious, why is K&E offering the extra money? I'm assuming you're a lateral? K&E SF? What year?

Good luck. I would do K+E but these are some brutal firms in terms of QOL.

Also, assuming the $50k is a diversity fellowship that you get immediately, it’ll help offset your 3L tuition/living costs. Plus, diversity fellows usually get some other perks.
Take Kirkland and don’t look back.

If this is Kirkland SF, it has a bit of a reputation, even among Kirkland offices. Just FYI.

Agree. I recall the entire original class of 2019 left within a year or so.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 8:07 amIf this is Kirkland SF, it has a bit of a reputation, even among Kirkland offices. Just FYI.

Woah that's crazy since K&E SF has pretty big summer classes each year if I recall correctly. Was it due to burnout or toxic culture or both?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:47 amAgree. Can you guys elaborate? Interesting to hear that a bay area office has a reputation.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:47 amAgree. FYI - there’s a whole bunch of Bay Area offices with reputations (e.g. STB PA). West coast big law might have been more chill 5-10 years ago but is more or less the same as NY nowAnonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 2:16 pmCan you guys elaborate? Some Google/TLS searches should yield plentiful results: K&E SF/esp. the private equity practice has had a terrible rep.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 2:16 pmCan you guys elaborate? There’s been some significant partner departures from K&E SF that should help from a QoL perspective….

This is an interesting take. I’d be curious to know what period of time you’re referring to for those partner departures.

IIRC a fair amount of partner departures have happened in the past 2 years, mostly to lateral into shares at other firms.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:11 pmAnonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:02 pmThere’s been some significant partner departures from K&E SF that should help from a QoL perspective….

@OP, when were you notified of your K&E diversity scholarship offer? I’ve been waiting to hear back on that but was told decisions would not be made until later on this month.
