Post-SA offer event

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:25 pm

I recently got a SA offer in a major market (think NY/Chicago/LA). My school is in the same city, and I planned on going back there (since I'm currently out of state) on a certain day. The problem is that the firm that gave me an offer is hosting an in-person reception (which I have not yet RSVP'd for) the day before that exact date.

Changing my travel schedule to allow me to go to the reception is doable, but it would be a bit of a logistical nightmare. It would require me to travel on the same day as the event (it would be tl;dr to explain why, just take it for granted that I can't travel on any prior date) and rent a hotel (since the apartment I'm renting will only be available for move-in on the date itself).

I have two questions here:
1) Will the firm reimburse my travel even though I'm going back to the city anyway (and even though I list the apartment I'll be eventually moving into (in that same city) as my address on the RSVP form)?
2) Is it essential that I go to the reception?

1. Contact HR, the SA program coordinator, or whoever sent you the invite to check.

2. Probably not essential to go. A year from now when you start, no one will remember or care whether you went to the event.
