Please help! Kirkland NY vs. Debevoise NY vs. Covington NY Forum

Torn right now between SA offers from these three. Interested in general corporate and tax, but not committed to any particular practice area. Would really appreciate any thoughts, opinions, rumors, etc. that might help give me a better picture of them!

Are you leaning a particular way between firms or is their a specific fit you’re looking for? More details would be helpful, but without that I would say Kirkland followed by Debevoise, especially for transactional.

Covington NY shouldn’t be in the mix here

You should 100% take Deb over K&E. Kirkland may be more “prestigious” overall but it a firm built on paying attractive bonuses to laterals, not training internal talent. Deb is also very well respected in the NY market.

Covington is fine and probably less grindy (I know a lot of people lateral there for a lifestyle upgrade and generally seem happy with it) but I think may be a step down in corporate. If you don’t care about that and would rather work a little less in expectation, Covington is also a good choice.

Covington is a phenomenal firm, but not in the same league as the other two (in NYC).

I would definitely choose between Debevoise and K&E here. Once narrowed down to those two, the choice should be clear one way or another, as I can’t really think of two top firms that are less alike.

K&E is definitely a bigger name nationally but not sure I’d say it’s more prestigious in the NYC market. Debevoise has managed to retain a very strong brand in NYC despite limited presence nationwide. Both very strong though.
