Overseas Number on OCI Resume?
I'm an international JD student at a T14 and I've been in my home country for a fairly long time now (everything being online made that possible). Because of that, I've only been using my foreign phone number and also put that down as my contact details on my resume which will be going forward to employers doing interviews for OCI.
The problem is as follows:
The number I listed on my resume includes something called a trunk prefix (meaning a digit you have to put at the start when you're doing domestic calls) and has to be preceded by the country call code for calls from abroad. The thing is, the way I put it down is with the trunk prefix included (in brackets). This means that if someone calls the number and includes that prefix, they'll just get an unreachable number. The person calling would have to be familiar with European calling protocols to know that they're supposed to omit the number in brackets when calling from abroad.
I've been panicking over this for the past few hours because I assume this means that I won't get any callbacks (the interviewers will likely try to call once then give up once they're notified they're trying to call an unreachable number).
I'm genuinely curious as to whether people understand how international calls work and whether I've genuinely ****ed this up.

They will most likely look at the number, possibly try to dial it once, then send an email. Highly unlikely they would just shelve a callback because they can’t reach you on international number.
But you should get a voip us number, even if you just use it as a voice message service. Google voice is free

You don't think it's possible they'll figure out they're just supposed to not include the 0 (i.e., the prefix, which is obviously out of place, being bracketed and all)? They've presumably seen European-format phone numbers before, right?

More than half of the emails I've gotten asking to set up interviews have been by email. But I agree with the poster above that you should get a US number just to alleviate this issue.

Nice nice, that's reassuring.12YrsAnAssociate wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 7:14 pmMore than half of the emails I've gotten asking to set up interviews have been by email. But I agree with the poster above that you should get a US number just to alleviate this issue.
I'll get a proper US number next month when I actually move there.
Thanks btw.

I also feel pretty confident most biglaw firms can figure out European calling conventions.

Re: Overseas Number on OCI Resume?
I once tried to call a European number from one of our US offices. I asked like 2 or 3 assistants and called the IT helpdesk. None of them managed to help me out. It's not just the international prefix but they will also need to add something at the beginning because they're placing an external call (like a 0 or a 9). So to call a number like +49 (0)10 1111111111 they will need to dial something like 9 0049 10 1111111111.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jul 26, 2021 6:51 pmI'm an international JD student at a T14 and I've been in my home country for a fairly long time now (everything being online made that possible). Anyways, if they don't manage to reach you they'll send you an e-mail.

Re: Overseas Number on OCI Resume?
As a sixth year associate I still haven't figured out how to call European numbers and whenever I see one I just send an email. A few times I've had to look it up in an emergency and it takes an embarrassingly long time to figure out and then I instantly forget afterward. There are 0's and 1's and 9's involved.
But there's 0 chance this results in you not getting a callback you otherwise would have. They'll just email. The person making the phone call is working for someone above them who has "made the call" as to whether to interview you --- and they aren't going to be like "oh, I'll ignore this request from my boss to contact the applicant because I can't figure out the phone number."
