Best LA firms for corporate?
I am a 0L starting at a t14 this year and a SEO law fellow (reason for anon.) Have significant ties to CA and am mostly interested in corporate. Vault is trash for anything outside NY and wanted to see what the views of TLS are about the firms in LA. General corporate rankings would be great but views on specific practice groups would be nice as well.

Anon b/c I’m a corporate summer in a V50 in LA. LA is an insular market and most SA positions (about 300 big law positions per summer according to UCLA) are lit focused, so to a degree you have to take what you can get. That being said there are some great corporate teams (especially if you like private equity). For the most accurate rankings I would check out Chambers, it’ll be better than random opinions of people on TLS. If you would be open to real estate as well there are more really solid options.

Overall, the biggest corporate players in LA specifically (and not Southern California) are (in no particular order):
Latham & Watkins
Skadden
O'Melveny
Paul Hastings
Munger Tolles
Gibson Dunn
Without knowing which practice groups you're interested in, it's harder to go into detail. But these firms have generally larger corporate practices than others in the area.
Latham & Watkins

Gibson Dunn

Agree with the list above. If you are looking at emerging companies or venture practice, then it would go to like Cooley, Goodwin, Fenwick, Gunderson, etc.

Litigation partner in LA. I agree that Latham, Skadden, Gibson, and PH are the biggest/most prominent firms for general corporate in LA. I think KE has a pretty robust corporate practice here too. MTO is a small (but very good) team focused on a few major institutional clients, and corporate definitely takes a back seat to litigation there. I don’t think OMM is in the same tier for corporate, although it’s a very good litigation shop.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 8:36 pmOverall, the biggest corporate players in LA specifically (and not Southern California) are (in no particular order):

EC/VC work is not huge down here. Entertainment transactional is and the firms that are very good at it include Gibson, PH, Loeb, Sheppard Mullin, and some others I am forgetting.

OP here, I'm definitely interested in PE & tech (specifically fund formation), any insight into how Goodwin is seen in LA?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 1:49 amLitigation partner in LA. In the emerging company/fund formation space in LA its probably Gunderson, Fenwick, Cooley, WSGR/Goodwin, in that order, in terms of where people seem to want to end up.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 2:44 pmOP here, I'm definitely interested in PE & tech (specifically fund formation), any insight into how Goodwin is seen in LA?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 1:49 amLitigation partner in LA. O'Melveny is classically a big player in entertainment transactional. Sidley also has a substantial PE shop and is doing some big deals.

Agreed. I would say that Goodwin is weakest of the bunch in LA.
