Comparing Firms Hub Post

Post by lawschoolistough23 » Sat Jul 10, 2021 12:58 pm

Feel like it would be super annoying to clog up the main page with individualized posts asking pros/cons of firms in comparison to one another but, on the other hand, that would be very helpful for people who are struggling to differentiate between firms they are considering.

So that being said -- maybe use this post as a place to give/get advice and perspective on that sort of thing? Or if that is unhelpful/too high a risk of doxxing, let's just ignore this post and forget it ever happened!

I think it’s a great idea! DPW and Latham, anyone? Both NY.

I'd lean DPW, especially if corp (doubly so if there is interest in cap markets/finserv)! DPW comes out ahead in terms of the clients/mentoring/exit opps/prestige and I've heard good things about the culture as well. I really really liked the people I talked to at Latham and have heard that it's a great place to work (super transparent, the firm is actually flexible with work habits as long as you are getting you work done) and still will have excellent exit opps and interesting work so maybe if this is super important to you, skew Latham.

If you are lit, I think things are more equivalent and I'd just go wherever you like the people more!

That being said, with the mega-firms, I worry a little about just being an anonymous cog in a well oiled and huge machine that gets squeezed for billables and then discarded while it feels like the DPW-esque firms invest more significantly into associate development. That could be a bit off base though.
