Just curious as I sit at home enjoying some down time between things to do.
When we return to the office, what for example, is going to be stopping me from just leaving work and going home and finishing the remainder of my afternoon online if I don't have any scheduled meetings or appointments? It seems awfully ridiculous to say, "you have to spend X amount of days in the office," when you have downtime on those days in which you are in the office. Just trying to figure out what will be stopping me from just leaving work early on my "in office days," and going home and logging on. Seems like an easy work-around.

Presumably the same thing that stopped you prior to March 2020 - i.e., the disapprobation of senior folk who stop by your office and realize you're not there, or who call you and work out from the call that you're out of the office. The only difference is that now they have a rule to judge you / call you out on the basis of. If you're confident that won't be an issue for you, nothing to stop you working from home. I'm sure firms aren't going to keep track of it.

It is and always has been basically you just a peer pressure thing Remains to be seen if the peer pressure will be different post covid (probably will). But the peer pressure stuff is real — like, career limiting stuff, really — to the degree it exists.
