Summer Associate Laptops
This may be an ultra-stupid question, but my firm (V30) is sending us laptops/keyboards/monitors for the summer. Will we have to send them back?

Yes, my firm sent the same things and we had to send them all back in the large box the computer came in by a certain date via fedex. They sent us the shipping label but we were responsible for getting it to a fedex center or otherwise scheduling a pickup.

This is crazy because I'm summering at a V5 and they're making us use our own laptops. Pretty annoying.

You laptop is probably better than whatever they would send.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 9:56 amThis is crazy because I'm summering at a V5 and they're making us use our own laptops. Pretty annoying.
Sidenote, lol at caring enough about Vault to use "V5," enjoy your summer at Latham.
(That might sound harsher than I intended, but I think outside the yearly survey I haven't even thought about Vault in at least five years. Just like the law school rankings, evenually it doesn't matter anymore unless you work in recruiting.)

Haha I don't think the fact that I'm summering at a V5 makes me better than anyone. I mostly meant that there is probably some correlation between financial stability/cheapness with relation to the Vault ranking. And while true, I believe we'll have to dial in via Citrix which is in my experience horrible software.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 10:05 amYou laptop is probably better than whatever they would send.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 9:56 amThis is crazy because I'm summering at a V5 and they're making us use our own laptops. I wouldn't read too much into financial stability on whether they are sending you a firm laptop or not. No one knows the best practice on this yet, and my guess is your summer class is quite large. This likely has less to do with cost, and more to do with thinking it will be easier to get you all set up remotely on equipment you already know how to use, rather than trying to do remote IT to set you up with new laptops you will just be returning in like two months. Are they right about that? I have no idea, but I also don't know that the firms which are sending equipment are doing the right thing either.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 10:14 amHaha I don't think the fact that I'm summering at a V5 makes me better than anyone. Well that narrows it down to 4... Can I hazard a guess at S&C, since they were so cheap with their summers last year?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 1:08 pmwait ... i thought lw is sending its summer associates laptops and tech stuffs, so I don't think the anon works at lw, probs another firmAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 10:14 amHaha I don't think the fact that I'm summering at a V5 makes me better than anyone. My firm last summer had 100s of summers and a 5 week program and we all still got laptopsAnonymous User wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 11:41 amI wouldn't read too much into financial stability on whether they are sending you a firm laptop or not. Re: Summer Associate Laptops
Do firms that send laptops also send docks, monitor cables, etc.? Seems like it would be an annoyance without those additional things.
