Keeping an offer open until conflicts clear?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Apr 19, 2021 1:32 pm

Hi - anon for obvious reasons. If you've accepted a lateral offer but also have another offer, is it common to keep the second one open (to the extent provided by the offer letter) until conflicts clear for the first one? I'm just concerned about the slight chance of not clearing conflicts, although I understand it is rare for someone in a transactional practice, but I also don't want to engage in any bad conduct. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

yes, it makes total sense to cover your bases.

keep asking for extension on the 2nd offer if necessary.

I received two offers within a few days of each other. I got so fed up with the constant pinging from both firms while I was trying to keep grinding at my current job, so I accepted one and rejected the other on the same day. I’m still going through conflicts... maybe I should have kept the other offer open, but I didn’t know how many fake convos I could keep having.
