I am in house in Houston and have never heard of them. But they are 24 attorney firm with fewer than 10 associates, so that's not all that surprising. I'm guessing finding someone on this forum with inside knowledge is a long shot.

So I guess it's safe to assume that Hicks won't be comparable to the top non-Susman lit boutiques in Houston? I'm thinking of AZA, Gibbs, Yetter, and Beck Redden?

I don't know if I'd make any assumptions just because one person hasn't heard of them. They may very well do comparable work. But I've certainly heard of all of AZA, Gibbs, Yetter, and Beck Redden.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 3:31 pmSo I guess it's safe to assume that Hicks won't be comparable to the top non-Susman lit boutiques in Houston? I haven't worked across from them, but my perception is that they are a cut below Gibbs, Reynolds Frizzell, AZA, and Yetter in work quality and general prestige. That isn't to say that it isn't a good firm, but it isn't at the top of the heap in terms of Houston boutiques. Can't speak to the environment or culture, other than to say that I have never heard bad things about it.

Is it easy to lateral from a top lit boutique (AZA, Yetter, Reynolds Frizzell, Gibbs etc.) to a biglaw shop in Houston? The rankings I’ve seen—such as the chambers tiers for litigation—place most of these boutiques at tiers above most of the biglaw firms in Texas. But for some reason, if, say, I wanted to move from one of them to Quinn or K&E in Houston, would that move be possible? And, practically speaking, what would cause such a move? Like, aside from obviously getting a bigger/nationally known firm on my resume, are there any significant benefits from lateraling out of the boutique to biglaw as a midlevel in Houston? (assuming I started at the boutique after law school/clerkship)?
