I recently started at a new firm at the beginning of the month. I’ve been staffed on a few matters, but it looks like I’ll barely hit 90-100 hours this month.
I’ve assisted partners in some deals, but they’ve mostly handled the follow-up questions/requests from clients. I’m assuming part of this is just the lack of trust since I just started.
How long does it take laterals to ramp up to a decent workload? I feel weird having no work on weekends, which I should probably be happy about.

Re: Lateral Ramp-Up
Depends. As you may have heard, it's totally normal. People have their go to folks they give work to so it's a little hard to break into that and get to the top of their mind, especially now when you can't actually physically see someone to remember they exist. Just do your best to be in contact with seniors and partners and the work will come.
First time I lateraled there was a ramp up and it definitely took me months to really be fully integrated.
Second time I lateraled I got ass blasted from day 1.

Re: Lateral Ramp-Up
It took me 6-8 months to get fully integrated when I lateraled - the firm definitely needed me and had work, so I was busy for a couple of months, but once I did all the work that had been building up it took a while to build the steady amount of work I needed going forward. Just make sure you check in with the partners you work for and let them know you can do more, and also make sure that don't want you to jump in and handle those questions/follow-up items when they come in. Some partners expect you to handle things instead of waiting to be asked to handle, and that may be a difference in working styles from your old firm (my lateraling experience involved some of that - the partners at the old firm would tell me if they wanted me to do something, new firm partners expected me to handle it or ask for help if I couldn't).
