Maybe it was naivete, but I loved biglaw until I got stuck with a screamer partner last month who has not stopped emailing me and other team members at all times of the day and night with impossible deadlines. I don't mind hard work. I don't mind work at all hours. But I do mind having to do hard work within limited hours that make it nearly impossible to do good work or handle other cases. I also mind having another first year cry to me after she got hammered today. And I mind getting yelled at. None of the other partners at my firm have been like this.
I won't say which firm because this already feels too specific, the issue is with the partner and not the firm as far as my other experiences here have gone, and it's a bad idea to out firms in general. But I'm at a V5 which makes me think I might not have too hard a time lateraling. Am I wrong about this? And what are the downsides to leaving besides "prestige," which feels worthless when you're getting yelled at, if I can get a job that pays market and is in the same city?

Also wanting to lateral, but in Corp. Group is too busy and no training. Not a good culture. Happy to switch to a different group (specialist type group) and geographies. But I see the writing on the wall and want to plan ahead with this. Not a place for long term growth.

If it's Kirkland, just hang in there. Think about all those incoming summers who can't help but share on Linkedin how humbled and thrilled they are to join your ranks.
