Were you encouraged to post/say something by the firm? Your post is unclear, but seems to imply that.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 12:24 pmI got an offer (accepted) from K&E and didn't get any guidance on what to say. In my experience, it's given recruiters another avenue to reach out to me beyond my website bio. If you're someone interested in lateraling, it's not a bad perk. That being said, I don't know what the point of actively ENGAGING with LinkedIn is as a BigLaw associate. I see a lot of "It was an amazing time advising on this deal" posts or "Just another wonderful transaction by our X team." It's literally the same as retweeting firm press releases.

I wish this were the case, but in law school I was surrounded by and forced to interact with upper-middle class people for the first time in my life, and it was ghastly and repulsive how my every conversation with these people immediately began with them trying to assert dominance or humiliate me. It was tiresome, and most of these people are socially retarded sociopaths.supermario26 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 1:04 pmSo many bitter people on this page who clearly struck out in law school or hate watching other people succeed and be happy about it.

Seems more than a bit harsh. Are you sure that your classmates weren't trying to engage with you socially like any normal human being?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:56 pmI wish this were the case, but in law school I was surrounded by and forced to interact with upper-middle class people for the first time in my life, and it was ghastly and repulsive how my every conversation with these people immediately began with them trying to assert dominance or humiliate me. The fact that you describe yourself as "surrounded and forced to interact with upper-middle class people" who you describe as mostly "socially retarded sociopaths" makes me wonder if aren't the real issue here—since you are the common denominator and you seemingly having issues with innocuous, normal-sounding questions.

Maybe that’s the case. Or maybe that’s how you interpreted it. Either way, who cares? People are always going to humble brag and try to one-up you. Just ignore them.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:56 pmI wish this were the case, but in law school I was surrounded by and forced to interact with upper-middle class people for the first time in my life, and it was ghastly and repulsive how my every conversation with these people immediately began with them trying to assert dominance or humiliate me. Don't see this as any sort of an issue, at least the questions you posed. Maybe if that was all you ever asked.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:56 pmI wish this were the case, but in law school I was surrounded by and forced to interact with upper-middle class people for the first time in my life, and it was ghastly and repulsive how my every conversation with these people immediately began with them trying to assert dominance or humiliate me. I came from a lower-class background and generally consider myself to have a bit of a chip on my shoulder about it. Those questions, however, never bothered me - it is normal to want to know what people are doing over the summer. Law review may be more suspect, the way you phrased it, but also a pretty normal question to ask.
I generally judge people more on making assumptions that people can do things that require a certain degree of economic privilege. Judging people on their hobbies, for instance, is a very common one.
Further, most of the LinkedIn posts I have seen, from people I know, are more likely to be from non-traditional or disadvantaged backgrounds than the totally silent ones. It's a huge accomplishment for them and brings with it a paycheck that is incomprehensible to someone not from an upper-class background.

What’s more annoying than these posts are these LinkedIn “influencer” types who seem to be trashing biglaw because of these posts. I’ve seen like 10 posts about this the last few days. All of them claim they didn’t try OCI because they didn’t want biglaw, but many of them went to TTTT, so who knows if that’s even the case.

I generally roll my eyes at people who say they didn't want biglaw and started out at a non-boutique firm. Beyond a few rare instances, it's almost certainly that these people had no shot at biglaw, but I'm sure it sounds better in their minds to say that they just never wanted it. You can usually tell with the rare circumstances too, as they'll be at a top midlaw/state firm where they're from and/or have order of the coif credentials listed on their bio.2013 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 12:26 amWhat’s more annoying than these posts are these LinkedIn “influencer” types who seem to be trashing biglaw because of these posts. Don't want to pick on you here because I don't know you, but if every interaction you've had with 100s of people has been negative, maybe they're not the problem. I totally understand feeling out place with a lot of privileged, frankly clueless law students, but they're not "socially retarded sociopaths" and that attitude is a great way to strike out in the job market / generally be miserable.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:56 pmI wish this were the case, but in law school I was surrounded by and forced to interact with upper-middle class people for the first time in my life, and it was ghastly and repulsive how my every conversation with these people immediately began with them trying to assert dominance or humiliate me. In my experience, the funniest posts are almost always incoming Paul Weiss summer associates who just cannot wait to tell you about the firm’s pro bono and “long tradition” of social justice work

I definitely give people who write the cringey SA posts the side eye. Just update your experience when the time comes. Now, if you're a real lawyer changing jobs and want to announce it, go for it. But for SA gigs? Nah, I'm gonna judge you.
