I’m going to Wilmer for corporate, and I was drawn to it because it is a smaller group. More recently people have told me that I should’ve considered going to Ropes/Goodwin/Choate instead because Wilmer does not have a good corporate department. Apparently there were a lot of departures a few years back.
So, the question is, is Wilmer’s corporate group so bad that it is a mistake to do corporate work there?

Based on the other firms you listed, I'm guessing that you are talking about Boston. I know nothing about the Boston legal market, but Chambers has Wilmer in band 1 for corporate/M&A so I doubt it is "so bad that it is a mistake to do corporate work there."

Whoever told you this is an idiot. Wilmer is a perfectly legit firm for corporate in Boston and is band1 for M&A, stop fussing over prestige.
