I recently accepted a summer associate position that I am incredibly excited about. However, it is in a major market and I know eventually I will want to lateral to my home market (smaller, but still a few big law offices with relevant practice areas). The firm I accepted at is in the V40-V60, so it's no V10 situation. However, it is particularly high in vault rankings for the practice area that I want to work in. Will this make a difference for lateral opportunities? I apologize in advance if anything in this seems particularly ignorant, I really have no idea how the lateraling process works. Technically the big law firms in my home market are ranked similarly to the summer program I am doing, if that changes anything.
Note: Yes I know it is probably not ideal that I am already thinking of wanting to lateral. However, I did not land any offers from OCI in my home market and honestly am just happy I got an offer from OCI, as it seems like it was pretty brutal for others.
Vault "speciality" rankings meaningless? worth consideration? Forum

Generally speaking, I think it’ll help when you lateral. I don’t think it makes you the most coveted lateral or anything, but it shows that you worked for some of the leaders in the field.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 7:37 pmSo if the practice group ranking for my practice area is a "band 1" then I would be in a good area for lateraling down the line?
