Will I Be Able to Pass a DHS Summer Internship Background Check?
So I have just been offered a DHS summer internship, but know that I need to pass a background check before I can start. I have no arrests, never sold drugs, nothing like that. But I do have marijuana usage within the past year. No other hard drug usage within the last year. Am I likely screwed for this internship?

Re: Will I Be Able to Pass a DHS Summer Internship Background Check?
Can't say for sure, but here are a couple things to consider:
1. For this background check, they may call your friends and ask them if they recall you using drugs, and what kind, and when. Whether and to what extent they do this will depend on the agency – I'm not sure about DHS. At least in my experience, DOS makes calls, DOJ (USAO) does not.
2. If you undergo a future, more intensive background check, and they somehow discover that you lied during an earlier background check, you're fucked in the way of ever securing federal employment again.
Good luck
