Re: Milbank
Great firm, first movers for compensation increases.
Best groups are probably project finance and their restructuring team that does mostly creditor side work. I think their lit is strong too but I'm less familiar.

Re: Milbank
Solid middle tier firm with strong restructuring and project finance groups. Outside of those groups, the rest are average at best.

Re: Milbank
Thats a little harsh. Milbank is definitely making moves. The M&A co-leader at Cleary just lateralled to Milbank. So, seems like they're trying to grow in other areas. I'm also guessing their capital markets is good and their transportation & space group is very strong.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:37 amSolid middle tier firm with strong restructuring and project finance groups. Re: Milbank
From a financial metrics perspective, i.e., RPL & PPEP, Milbank is in the same ballpark as (or outperforms) other firms typically regarded as NY powerhouses: Cleary, Debevoise, Weil, etc...

OP, Milbank is one of the top firms in NY. Look to Chambers rankings for specifics about practice groups, but their project finance, capital markets, and litigation groups are all very strong at least.

Re: Milbank
On chambers, it's band 1 in only restructuring and only band 2 in corp. finance. Is it really a peer to S&C, CSM, STB, DPW, L&W, PW? I don't know.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:42 amlol come on.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:37 amSolid middle tier firm with strong restructuring and project finance groups. Re: Milbank
Milbank is a very solid firm in NY, and as a poster above mentioned, has solid financials, which should reassure anyone concerned about the firm’s future.
Is Milbank a peer? No. But Latham is also not a peer to those firms in NYC. I would say Milbank is a peer firm to Latham in NYC.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:50 amOn chambers, it's band 1 in only restructuring and only band 2 in corp. finance. Re: Milbank
Yeah, I'm looking at Chambers. It doesn't look to be in the same ballpark as the top NYC firms (S&C, CSM, STB, DPW, PW, Debevoise, LW, Cleary, etc). I don't think mid-tier is that inaccurate since it's not in that top tier? Would you prefer upper middle?...Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:50 amOn chambers, it's band 1 in only restructuring and only band 2 in corp. finance. Re: Milbank
I think of it on par with White and Case –– better than most satellite offices and one of the best NY firms outside of the v10. And I know people who turned down v10 to go to Milbank because they are very good in their strong practice groups.

Re: Milbank
Milbank is a great firm, with a couple industry-leading practice groups. But it's definitely considered a tier below the upper crust of S&C/Skadden/DPW/Cravath/Wachtell/Simpson, and perhaps a smidge below Cleary.
So middle-tier is underselling the firm, but it's a stretch to say it's top-tier. Even if they moved first on compensation.
