Gibson Dunn NY - Prestige/Culture/Thoughts?
Trying to decide between Gibson and another firm - Any thoughts specifically on their corporate practice? I've heard it's grown a lot in the past several years and that they have a strong one. That being said the other firm(s) I am considering has a very strong Corporate practice (Latham/Paul Weiss). Practice area - wise Gibson is not as strong as those firms (though i've been told it's still strong) but I loved the people I met at Gibson a lot - what matters in the long run?? any advice/thoughts would be appreciated please!!!!!

Obviously Gibson's more well-known for their firm-wide litigation practice/appellate practice, which is top notch. That being said, I don't think Gibson's corporate practice is weak, but it's probably not on the same powerhouse level as otherwise "peer" firms in NY (LA might be different, I don't know). Check the chambers bands if you have specific firms/corporate practice areas in mind you want to compare. Off the top of my head, I think the NY office is supposed to be strong in Real Estate.
At the end of the day, you have to decide which place is going to be the right place for you based on the work you want to do, the work they offer, the firm's prestige/reputation (in general and in that work in particular — if this is important to you), and whether you mesh with the firm's people/culture/work assignment system. If you want to do M&A work and you really like the people at Gibson over the people at Skadden, for instance, maybe it makes sense to choose based on the people you will be spending more time with.
(My $0.02 as someone who was looking at Gibson primarily from a litigation interest, so take with however many grains of salt you want.)

Their mm pe is pretty good after they poached a rainmaker from K&E a few years ago.
Their restructuring practice is up-and-coming. The head Scott Greenburg is a Weil BFR alum and I have seen him on multiple mega deals; mostly senior creditor reps though if that matters.
