V/5-10 firm in NY or smaller V/20-25 LA
Looking for some advice—I’m deciding between summer offers right now at a large V/5-10 firm in NY or a smaller V/20-25 firm in LA. I want to end up in LA doing transactional work eventually, but I don’t hate the idea of living in NY for a couple years. Is the NY offer too good to pass up?

Voted for LA. My vote might have been casted differently if the LA firm had a much lower ranking. But I don't feel like there's much difference in terms of prestige or exit opportunities between a V5~10 firm and a V20~25 firm, especially if the V20~25 firm is in LA. And if you want to end up in LA, be in LA. What I'm trying to say is, no, the NY offer is not too good to pass up.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Sun Feb 07, 2021 7:42 amLooking for some advice—I’m deciding between summer offers right now at a large V/5-10 firm in NY or a smaller V/20-25 firm in LA. Conceivably, if the higher-"ranked" firm excels in a practice area you're targeting, which the LA firm only has a mediocre group for, but if you want LA biglaw then there's a strong presumption in favor of ... LA biglaw.

OP I had a very similar situation between a V-20 in DC and a V-50 in LA. I also want to do corpoate transactional work and eventually end up in LA. Just decided on LA this past Friday and I don’t regret it. At a certain point these rankings don’t mean much if the firm pays market. You have to like where you’re working, otherwise what’s the point of chasing a little extra vault prestige?
