Ok, I'll bite. What the hell is M&A work?
I truly don't understand what the day-to-day deliverables are in M&A, beyond general commentary on how it may be more "interesting" than other deals. I get litigation, I get restructuring, but I don't really understand what lawyers do in M&A beyond, like, transcribing the substantive business terms that the parties themselves (and their hired M&A banks) have already agreed to. Is there an aspect to the job that's less...mechanical than just that part as an Associate?
