Firms intentionally trying to trip you up
I think a CB I just had there were associates trying to trip me up (so odd). Attitude, technical issue after technical issue, sarcasm. Am I crazy? Discuss!

Let me get this straight, you think that the firm intentionally created technical difficulties just to mess with you? And attitude/sarcasm isn't exceedingly rare in a profession with as many difficult personalities as big law?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:17 pmI think a CB I just had there were associates trying to trip me up (so odd). I’d assume OP meant “technical” as in asked substantive legal questions rather than behavioral fluffAnonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 4:11 pmLet me get this straight, you think that the firm intentionally created technical difficulties just to mess with you? I've definitely experienced some rudeness—had a firm offer a screener then ghost when I responded (lol?)—but haven't seen anything like that, aside from one guy who definitely smirked too much during a CB. I probably would've too, if I were him... my answer was pretty cringe-inducing.

Re: Firms intentionally trying to trip you up
There’s a school of interviewing that wants to see how you deal with adversarial or tedious questions. The theory is that if you can’t handle it in an interview, you won’t be able to handle hostile opposing counsel.
Also some firms actually foster that kind of attitude in daily life, and/or associates are just miserable and/or mean people.
But I don’t think anyone’s going to manufacture technical issues to mess with you - much more likely that they just didn’t take the time to figure anything out ahead of time. (I’m assuming literal technical issues since everything is virtual this year.)

Re: Firms intentionally trying to trip you up
I did have an interviewing attorney berate me for like 10 minutes and tell me that he didn't think I could handle big law/that id never make it/that I should just go back to my old career, but he at least explained at the end what he was doing and said that I handled it very well (and honestly, he wasn't that great an actor).
