Simpson vs. Covington vs. Cooley vs. Akin (NY Lit)

Are they all equal or does one have much better litigation than the others?

If you're a 2L and don't want your summer cancelled, anything but Simpson.

Covington or Akin because STB is just not a lit shop. You will a distant second fiddle in their business while covington and akin have v strong, forward-facing lit practices (tho Akin is much more particularized). If you are flexible on practice area, then STB because their corporate practice is top tier and the strongest NY institution among the firms here.

It definitely seems like Akin and Covington are more lit focused, but what are you thoughts given that Simpson's lit groups rank higher than either firm on Chambers. Is doing lit at Simpson still committing to being a second-class citizen within the firm?

Chambers rankings are what they are but it's a fact that STB is a corporate powerhouse with an ancillary lit shop for its corporate clients. On the other hand, Cov NY is a premier white collar/investigations practice while Akin has excellent bankruptcy/restructuring lit. Lit at STB is not a bad thing or necessarily detrimental to a lit career but there's a chance you get pushed into corporate work (bc less demand for lit) and I just wouldn't like feeling like I was working on projects not really relevant to the firm's business.

Sorry I'm curious as to why you say this. I thought Simpson didn't cancel their summer program in 2020?

Covington NY seems to be the clear winner here as far as lit is concerned. Covington is obviously well known for white collar and investigations, but they also have a strong NY general litigation practice, which is growing in presence in NY.

Sorry I'm curious as to why I said that too. It was Sullivan and Cromwell. Shameful.
