I sincerely hope this is a troll. If not, may God have mercy on you.

A huge one, this is really a career-ender. Start mass-mailing, you might be able to move up to at least a V21, if not a V20.

This is either a weak effort at trolling or an example of what’s wrong with gunner K-JDs who lack perspective. No. It does not matter. Do not waste time and effort trying to move up 5 spots on a stupid ranking system. Please find some self worth in something other than what vault ranking your firm has. You got an offer at an outstanding firm when many are striking out. Sorry if harsh but a lot of people need some tough love when it comes to this stuff.

You edited you post to remove some details, but as someone at YSH, you’ve probably spent most of your adult life on a hedonic treadmill of achievement - which is why this question even occurs to you in the first place. That’s probably also why you see this choice through the lens of what “you’ll be doing” vs. “what your friends will be doing.”
These are all excellent firms, and the choice of firm at this level will not have a material impact on your career. Much more will be dictated by random chance and the fact that your friends are apparently hardworking while you admit to being a “lazybones.”

Re: "V20" vs. "V25"
I feel like I'm going insane, seeing all this discussion of rankings, and comparing one ranking to another 5-10 slots away. I can understand how they're helpful to give a general idea of a firm's reputation, but jeez.
Maybe it's because I worked a few years before law school and am totally out of the loop, but I was absolutely unaware of how seriously people take those Vault rankings until I stumbled upon this forum. Is this something that's limited to the younger k-JDs at T14s, or is this something those practicing actually take to heart? Can someone fill me in on the real deal?

Re: "V20" vs. "V25"
these types of questions make me hate the legal field.
for what it's worth, i had offers to a a few v5s and v10s, and went with a firm in the v30s. i am very happy with this decision. this is a legal career. pick the firm that you actually see yourself at and can genuinely enjoy the work. do not..i repeat...do not pick a firm based solely on where it falls on the often-meaningless vault rankings. such a bad idea and literally why so many people end up hating their biglaw jobs.
