Hi All,
I just received an offer for a SA position at my dream firm. As a result, I've had to cancel a few callbacks. I noticed that a lot of the recruiters respond by asking what firm I'll be spending my summer at. Since I still haven't accepted the SA offer at dream firm, how do I tell the recruiter that I'd rather not disclose the firm's name politely? Thanks!
How to decline answering what firm you got an offer from to a firm you cancelled a CB with? Forum

How about just not replying to the question (assuming this is over email)? They aren't entitled to know, and there will be not be repercussions for staying mum. The recruiting person is probably busy juggling 10 different things anyhow and will forget about it in 5-10 minutes.

To the extent they're asking you on the phone (and not via email): "I've narrowed it down to a few options, but I haven't made a final decision yet." If there's any further follow up, "I'd rather not say as I'm still weighing a few options and haven't made a final decision yet."
If it's via email, you can use the above, or simply not respond.
Problem solved.

I agree with all of the above re: just not answering, since you're not required to tell anyone what firm you picked.
But another perspective, when firms ask you this, they're mostly just doing it for internal research purposes. Firms try to keep track of what firms people are choosing over them and use that information to adjust their recruiting strategy in the future. There aren't really any negative repercussions to disclosing what firm you picked; it's not like the firm you rejected is going to go badmouth you to the firm you picked.
