Should I tell other firm about offer?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jan 26, 2021 12:26 pm

I received my first offer from the seven firms that I interviewed with. I am wondering whether I should inform one firm that specifically asked me to let them know if I received any offers. This firm traditionally takes a couple of weeks at least to provide an offer, and I am worried that this offer will get close to expiring before I hear back.

I have a 1L offer that expires soon-ish and have told firms when they asked (usually during the chats at the end with someone from recruiting, who asks me whether I have any offers or tells me to let them know when I do). I figure that it's better to tell them now, rather than to wait and see if they'll offer me within the limit and then send them an email 2 days before the deadline informing them of something they know I've known about since my CB, which seems kind of unprofessional.

It's also possible I'm missing something but I don't think that informing them you have an offer will hurt you. They're unlikely to say "well let's not offer X because they already have an offer." If they want you it's not to make sure you're employed, it's because you're valuable to the firm and that probably won't be affected by what offers you have/don't have.

Yes--If you have an outstanding offer, you should immediately let every other firm you're waiting on know that you have one and if they can expedite their decision accordingly. Firms will then know that you have about 2 weeks on average to decide.
