3L with biglaw offer; interested in applying elsewhere

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Jan 24, 2021 1:38 pm

I was an SA at a large NY firm and accepted an offer to join that firm this fall. However, for personal reasons, I am looking to move to Chicago. I did not participate in the bidding process this OCI cycle, but is it appropriate for me to mass mail to Chicago firms? I understand that it's a long-shot, but is it risky to send out applications when I have already accepted an offer? If my current firm somehow finds out, what could that mean for me?

Appreciate any insight!

I made that exact move as a 3L. Mass mail and keep your eyes peeled for entry-level associate positions. From my experience, firms I applied to generally understood why I wanted to make the move, didn’t pry much, and made the process confidential. It is possible for your firm to find out but unlikely, especially if they don’t have an office in Chicago.

Same position as OP. Where are you seeing job openings for entry-level jobs in Chicago?
