Offer Timeline in a COVID world?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue Jan 19, 2021 4:11 pm

anon because of post history

I am a 2020 graduate who is changing markets but staying in same practice group. At the end of December I applied directly to a firm after seeing their job posting, received a screener invite the next day from a partner, and last Wednesday was invited to a Zoom call with two partners. Only one partner showed up (same person who did the screener) because the other had something unexpected that came up. I was expecting this Zoom interview to be an hour or more, but it was like 20 minutes max. Partner basically asked a couple of very forward questions (salary expectations and when I will be moving to that market), and then said "you are at the top of the list, but I will be talking to other partners at the end of the week and I'll send you an email Friday to let you know of the next steps. We typically like to see people in person, but COVID obviously makes it difficult."

Friday came along and I heard nothing. After waiting over the long weekend, I still haven't heard anything. Should I reach out or give them time? She did mention the office was busy, which is why the other partner was unable to make it to my Zoom interview, but at the same time, she gave herself a sort of hard deadline and the partners supposedly were going to meet that day to discuss hiring needs in all practice groups.

Thoughts?

I usually wait two weeks and then fire it off. Do what you're comfortable with. I think anything after a week is probs fine. I wouldn't wait 3-4 weeks though.

You think wait even despite him saying he'd get back to me last Friday?

Send the follow up. Nothing to lose and a nice follow up isn’t going to change the decision from yes to no.
