Spelling error on resume OCI, how screwed am I?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jan 14, 2021 12:34 pm

Hey all, on my resume I submitted during OCI I had a spelling error in which I spelled cast with an o, making it cost. This was in my interest section and it was the first word of the line. Is this going to screw me? How should I correct this? Should I notify firms before interviews of the error or am I wrong to draw attention to it? Thanks for the help.

It is what it is. Laugh it off in interviews, and don't draw too much attention to it. You can't change it now anyways. If you make a big deal out of it, the attorneys will also feel like it's a big deal. Everyone's made a mistake in their life. Act relaxed, admit the mistake and try to make it humorous.

I spelled the name of one of the dudes who interviewed me wrong in a follow-up email. Still got an offer. We laughed about it later. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. Shit happens. You'll most likely be fine.

I don’t know that most interviewers will have looked at your resume prior to you entering the room, or looked at it with much focus. And at OCI, unless you have some really interesting background, I doubt it has much importance.

I would bring a resume with you and offer it to them right when you come in. Many will just use that one. If they ask why since they have one, you can say something along the lines that you brought one for convenience or something. They won’t think much of it.

I got a COA clerkship with a typo in my resume. I can't imagine a screener with 20 other people to interview will be less forgiving than a judge/clerks.
