Seeking Advice re Lateralling into LA Market

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Jan 13, 2021 7:13 am

I am a junior litigation associate hoping to lateral to LA in the next few years (so not immediately urgent) and thought I'd seek advice.

About me:
Median grad from T14
Work in big law in secondary market
Have experience with depositions/motion hearing
I am licensed elsewhere but not in CA

I don't have specific ties to LA (familial or academic) but just would love to live there, period. I've visited several times and fell in love in with LA, its weather, and the vibe.

I can tell the market is pretty competitive and I unfortunately do not have much experience in the hotter areas like patent lit or employment. I've been doing mostly contract law aka commercial lit and I like it, but I can tell I wont stand out. Should I try for a clerkship first before I lateral? Or is there a way I can go directly?
