Hey all:
I am beginning my second semester as a Tax LLM student at UF. Given how I was remote the first semester I haven't been able to talk with many other students in my classes about our big tax recruiting event taking place this semester. Bidding opens up quite soon and I was just wondering what to expect with TARE. We have been told many students get their jobs from this event... there is an info session soon but maybe some of you all here can offer your experiences or what you know about TARE.
We got our Fall grades back and I did pretty well (GPA between 3.60 and 3.80) so I am hoping I am competitive for the majority of Big 4 Accounting Jobs but I honestly have no idea what their cutoffs are. My JD grades were middle of the road at a T25 so I don't expect I have much of a chance with the larger law firms.
Do you all know who generally recruits at TARE and how the process goes? It looks kind of like OCI where you bid on employers then a marathon interview day in early March.
Thank you all for any advice/help navigating this process.

Re: TARE Advice
I wouldn’t rule out biglaw if you want it. It’ll be an uphill battle because you’re at UF and not NYU/GT since, at least in my year, firms did not even go to TARE. My current firm also doesn’t do TARE (only TIP).
With your grades and credentials, you should be reaching out to firms in Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Atlanta, Nashville, etc. where there may be more UF LLMs since, unless this has changed, you won’t see many law firms at TARE.
Even at TIP, I remember some firms almost exclusively interviewing NYU LLMs (interviewee names were posted on doors).
Good luck!

Thanks for the information. Yeah, I was under the impression TARE was mainly accounting firms, which I would be happy with. I figured that by going to UF those would be the primary options.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 4:00 pmI wouldn’t rule out biglaw if you want it. Re: TARE Advice
Anon above. I had similar law school stats and a much lower LLM gpa (from NYU/Georgetown) and I had no problem getting offers at most of the Big4 offices I interviewed with. I only did m&a/international.Tax Law Hopeful wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 4:31 pmThanks for the information. If you want big4, you will have no problem getting one, even in NY.

UF Tax Alum here. The majority of employers at TARE are Big4 groups and a few law firms based on my experience last year. However, the line-up really depends on which employers sign up to attend. As for the process, your description was pretty spot on!
Best of luck!
