Lat. Int. 11/20: Silence--Follow-up Inquiry
Hey all. Back in late November I had a lateral callback. It seemed to go well, but I've had no response since. I did a follow-up in early December, but the recruiting person never got back to me. There was some question as to which sub-group in the practice I would be placed into, so I thought perhaps they were sorting that out. The day I followed up, a friend who sent my application stated that the partner inquired about me. However, it's been silence since. Wanted to see what people here would recommend as the best approach: continue following up or just wait on it? Thanks!

I struggled with this myself while lateraling. I know what it’s like to have the unknown just eat at you, when you’re experiencing extended radio silence.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 5:53 pmHey all. At the end of the day you just need to remember that at no point has any big law firm received a follow up inquiry and thought to itself “oh yeah! We should move on him/her immediately. S/he is our top choice! How could we have forgotten?!?”
At best, follow ups do nothing. At worst (though fairly unlikely) they might not help. It’s not like a law school waitlist.
I recommend no follow up.
A wise person said to me once that after every interview you should proceed as if you got rejected in the room. Move on, keep applying, put it out of your mind. Much easier said than done of course, but it makes sense.

I get that--I just find it strange to go radio silent rather than just say "We have not made a decision" or "we are still considering". Kind of hard to know what to make of that. I guess it is a form of rejection, but I've always just gotten straight up boilerplate rejection emails.
