Tech/cybersecurity legal recruiters?

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Dec 26, 2020 12:19 am

I was wondering if anyone out there happened to have any good recommendations for a legal recruiter with a solid understanding of the private tech investigations/cybersecurity market. Could be in-house at a tech company, big firm, boutique, etc. More concerned with the sophistication of the work than the label.

I don’t want to give much in the way of background for fear of outing myself, but I have been doing substantial public sector work in this area for a number of years now (think big state DA/AG or bigfed) and am considering the possibility of going private within the next year or two once some pending matters wrap up. Seems like a pretty niche but potentially in-demand skillset, but other than the occasional specific job posting I’ve seen I don’t have much of a clue what the market looks like out there, so I could definitely use some guidance.

At any rate, thanks in advance for reading and for any tips you can pass my way.

I don’t know any recruiters in the space, but I worked at a firm in a closely adjacent area and now work in house at a tech company.

Obviously depends on the details of your experience, but I would think you’d be competitive at any of the firms that have a decent sized privacy/cybersecurity practice (especially for the DC firms if your experience is BigFed, as they really value that credential). Off the top of my head, MoFo, Hogan, Covington, Wilmer, and Orrick would be good places to look. One thing to consider is whether you can and/or want to market yourself as someone with privacy expertise too (eg, would a client want to hire you for an FTC privacy investigation?).

For in house, there will probably only be directly relevant jobs at really big tech companies (think FAANG or close). I know Facebook has a number of regulatory investigations attorneys, for instance. That said, your experience would probably make you marketable for a number of other jobs at tech companies in the litigation or regulatory area.
