Wow... 2800 is just insane. I'm at 2360 for the year with 2 weeks to go, but I'm taking the next three weeks off.

Re: HOURS CHECK
In all seriousness, why do you guys keep going after 2000/applicable bonus cut off? I can understand a handful of hours over, but 400-800+ over? Hard pass.

oh there's no choice in it. just keeps coming and you can't say no to most thingsExcellent117 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 1:28 pmIn all seriousness, why do you guys keep going after 2000/applicable bonus cut off? I can understand a handful of hours over, but 400-800+ over? Hard pass.
maybe it's different at "free market" firms where you get your assignments off some database maybe?

1700 for 2020...was on track for 2100 until March. Clients are mostly in aviation so drop off was expected. Picking up now...most hours already since February. Thankfully our next bonus period for 2021 has started.

Good god. Was looking to lateral into an EC/VC role, but this gives me pause. Do you think this is a 2020 phenomenon, or are hours comparable to past years?Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 1:37 amNope. SV EC/VC.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 12:41 amFiscal: 2721

Re: HOURS CHECK
I can't imagine it would be different anywhere. If associate x does good work for partner y, regardless of what system the firm uses for assignments, is there anything stopping partner y from sending an email to associate x letting them know they've staffed them on 2 other new deals?Definitely Not North wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 3:14 pmoh there's no choice in it. just keeps coming and you can't say no to most thingsExcellent117 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 1:28 pmIn all seriousness, why do you guys keep going after 2000/applicable bonus cut off? I'm at a firm where you're allowed to say no to work, but even here people will staff you on something even though you say no and say something like "maybe if you free up in a couple weeks it'd be good to have you in the loop" and then you're just fully on the deal from day 1.

Re: HOURS CHECK
2020 was definitely a special year. 3 years prior were all between 2000 and 2400, which ain't nothing but isn't as bad as this year.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 4:42 pmGood god. Part of it was that literally every client we had called us all at once about the PPP. There were also a TON of deals that happened this year because of COVID - it seems like the pandemic is really distorting things and a lot of companies that probably wouldn't have taken on financing in past years are doing so in preparation for a recession.

All my prior years were 2,000-2,300. This year will be ~1,850 (~100 pro bono included). I’m in NYC big law in litigation.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
