Lateral Market in Seattle

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:34 pm

I'm currently a second-year associate at a V20 in SoCal (non-corporate practice group). My wife got an amazing job offer in Seattle, so we're going to be relocating. Unfortunately, my firm does not have an office in Seattle, so transferring is not an option. Based on the cursory research that I've done, it looks like Seattle is a pretty tiny market for big firms. Does anyone have any insight into the lateral market? It seems like Perkins Coie might be my best bet (assuming they are are hiring) simply because of how large the office is.

Not sure if this matters at all, but I went to a T25, Order of the Coif, Law Review, no ties to Seattle outside of my wife's job.

Thanks!

There aren't many biglaw jobs in Seattle, but have you checked Amazon? Seems like they're always hiring. I get contacted by recruiters about once every couple months for Seattle-based positions and I'm on the east coast.

Any idea why it's such a small market? I haven't checked Amazon (mainly because I've heard that it's not a great work envrionment), but I should probably check it out at this point. Thanks for the suggestion — I looked at their careers page and it looks like they have a ton of openings.

Would you be open to down-shifting to midlaw?
