With hiring recently picking up, I’ve been exploring the market. One thing I have been noticing more during my interviews this time around is that the interviewers seem completely disinterested in me/my experience for the opening. I work at a well known firm (nationally ranked chambers practice, etc.), but some of my interviewers have asked what kind of work my firm does. It’s as if they don’t look at my resume until they are speaking with me. It’s been really off-putting. The first time it happened, I brushed it off. But it’s happened a few more times this past week.
I feel like I’m just put in front of interviewers who have no interest in hiring me just to meet some minority quota for hiring purposes. I can’t even get past a screener this time around. Last time lateraled, I made it to callbacks every time.
I did not have any of these awkward interactions the last time I lateraled, and I’ve been told on numerous occasions that I’m a strong interviewer.
Has anyone else experienced this? It’s been very discouraging, and I’m wondering if firms are trying to “show” they try to get diverse attorneys by giving a screener.
