How to Apply to Milbank?

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Sep 17, 2020 12:31 pm

Now that Milbank is the salary king, I’m interested in applying there. My recruiter doesn’t know the recruiting manager there, and I have 0 classmates I know there. I sent an email to the generic lateral email and the email responded that it is not a monitored email and directed me to apply online, which only has posted opportunities. There’s no posting for my practice group.

How does one go about applying in this situation?

Do I just go through a recruiter with no connections there?

Just go to Hudson Yards and start yelling about bonuses and that you want to work there. Should do the trick.

Would you happen to know if they're open to recent law grads?

Edit: deleted because this made me very identifiable

This is kind of a silly reason to apply to a firm. All of the top NYC firms are going to end up more or less identical in comp at the end of the day (excluding WLRK).

I’m at a firm that cut salaries at one point. It won’t be matching anything.

Still silly to focus on Milbank.

Fair point. I’m not only focusing on Milbank, though. Milbank just seems to make it impossible for people to apply directly, which is why I asked. I have applied (mostly through referrals) and interviewed with other firms. I just forgot about Milbank until yesterday.

Milbank associate here. Best way to get hired as a lateral at Milbank is to be referred by a current associate (or partner obviously). My group, for example, is actively looking for mid-levels but I don't think there's anything posted on our careers page. Also, the referral bonus is nice :)

They were the first mover to $190, and then they matched DPW on special bonuses and I believe are offering even more bonuses to high billers.

K&E associate who was just on a restructuring w/ Milbank who acted as counsel to one of the sponsors and basically just coasted and "looked over our shoulder" while not even being invited to the calls by their own client.

I too am interested in this thread, as I want to get paid more for doing less.
